Mr. Sean Lenz is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of Arboreal Capital LLC. Mr. Lenz specializes in raising institutional capital for real estate sponsors, real estate projects, and other real asset investment opportunities. He also specializes in raising capital for social and environmental impact opportunities.
In Mr. Lenz’s previous roles as a senior member of the real estate investment banking groups at Sutter Securities, Salem Partners, Cantor Fitzgerald, and BMO Capital Markets, Mr. Lenz has advised senior management teams on over $10 billion in merger, reverse merger, and divestiture transactions and more than $10 billion in debt and equity financings for public and private REITs, private real estate operators and developers and funds. Transaction experience has included initial public offerings, follow-on offerings, senior and subordinated notes, proprietary loans, and in excess of $5 billion in private capital raising assignments, his primary focus. Mr. Lenz has covered all sectors within the real estate space as well as infrastructure (including buy-side acquisition and asset management experience) and energy assets. Mr. Lenz began his career as an Analyst in Wachovia Securities’ Real Estate Corporate Finance Group (Wells Fargo).
Mr. Lenz graduated cum laude from the University of Richmond with majors in Finance and Leadership Studies. Mr. Lenz is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Mr. Lenz and his wife Jennifer live near Salt Lake City, Utah where he enjoys skiing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer months.
Mr. Lenz currently holds Series 79, 7, and 63 registrations with FINRA.
Mr. James Magowan is a Co-Founder and Managing Director at Arboreal Capital. Mr. Magowan leads efforts to finance ESG qualified companies and projects across real assets (real estate, low carbon energy, infrastructure, forestry), resource efficiency, and financial services. He recently served as Co-Founder and interim CEO of Arboreal BV, a reforestation company that employs a biodiverse, permanent model to maximize carbon sequestration and landscape ecosystem restoration at scale.
Through Arboreal Capital and his previous roles at Sutter Securities, Security Research Associates, and Johnson Capital, Mr. Magowan has invested in, originated, structured, and capitalized companies in the sectors of renewable energy, resource conservation, healthcare, technology, cyber security, financial services, and real assets. Mr. Magowan has previously served as a strategic consultant to investors including The World Bank/IFC, Inter-American Development Bank, and the Swiss Fund for Emerging Markets.
Mr. Magowan serves on the Board of Directors of Merchants National Properties (owners of Marx Realty), a vertically integrated real estate and investment company controlled by the Merrill, Lynch, and Marx families since 1933. Merchants have interests in 3.4 million Square Feet of office and retail property principally in New York, Washington DC, Boston.
Mr. Magowan serves on the Advisory Boards of Arboreal BV and Parker Maritime Technologies. He’s a Partner at the Caribbean Climate Smart Accelerator and Vice President of a Private Family Foundation. He’s a past appointee to the United States Department of Energy’s Nuclear Advisory Committee. Mr. Magowan speaks on impact investing at conferences globally. He has co-organized the Investing in Deep Decarbonization Conferences since 2017 in San Francisco, New York, and Amsterdam.
Mr. Magowan is an honors graduate with a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University and earned a Master of Business Administration from the International Institute for Management Development (IMD).
